The 2002 Lake Lyle Opener Results

Understock is the big game hunter!

It was a great weekend to hold the 22nd annual Lake Lyle Opener.  This year's format had just the perfect twist to it, the weather cooperated, and cabin D4 was finally christened.

The twist resulted when many of the usual participants were faced with schedule conflicts. We decided to open the event to include a double-special Friday night socializing as well as the traditional Saturday night fever.  The lounge drew a nice group of people each night.  The food was delicious and plentiful.  The weather was mildly cool and kept the insects at bay. This all resulted in a successful 2002 Lake Lyle Duck and Goose Opener.

The 2002 Group Picture... thanks Mary for the reminder and thanks to Dave for taking it!

Terry Understock, of Sioux Falls, won the Bag Limit Trophy this year by bagging a greater Canadian honker and also a good-lookin Drake Mallard duck.  This is not the first Duck and Goose show Terry' has ever been to, as his name is plastered on the trophy numerous times from winning it in past years - or was that his brother? oh well.  Larry Brink, of Watertown, gave Terry a good run for the trophy by turning in 4 "nice-lookin" ducks but you know how the ol' saying goes... don't come to a Duck & Goose contest and expect to win without a Goose ( just in case ya never heard that one before ).

Many many tours to cabin D4 were given...   Terry, Mike and Ricky were the first official occupants to stay in D4.

This year we had a door prize for the girl with the most original hunting hat...

and the winner was Diane of Lake Lyle. Here is Mike with Diane's hat ( he got 1 vote )
