Hofer gathers game as Bergstrom terrorizes trap
It was the same ole story many hunters have heard before "... every day for the past week the geese get off the water at 7:45 and fly right over the same spot but on opening day it all changes.." And that's exactly what happened this year at Lake Lyle. For some reason, unknown to man, the geese decided to take flight almost an hour early and caught the guide, Lyle of, dumbfounded. However, Carey Hofer of Huron, took advantage of this disarray flight pattern and managed to bag a good-lookin mallard duck. Carey downed the duck in the water and acquired Abby's assistance to retrieve it.
The Sunday morning shoot had Ralph Verschoor, of Rapid City, pulling down a greater Canadian but unfortunately, he was unable to retrieve it so the Game Trophy goes to bird-in-hand hunter, Kerry Hofer. Congratulations Kerry!
This year's winner, Mr Carey Hofer of Huron.
This year's trap shoot went to Mr. Mike Bergrstom of Sioux Falls. Mike's victory was a result of missing only 1 clay pigeon out of 10. Last year's champion, Terry Understock along with Rick Berg came in second place with 2 misses. Mr. Berstrom took home 40 bucks, bragging rights for a year, and a mighty shit-eating grin.

Mr. Cow finally came out of a 5-year hibernation. We lost his stand so the saw houses had to make do. As soon as we put him out, many geese and ducks started diving at the lodge.
