Lyle of Lake Lyle and Larry Longstreet Win !!

The 4th annual Lake Lyle Ice Fishing Derby was held Feb 7th, 2004 on the beautiful ice of Lake Lyle.  Once again, this year's format sent the perch-pursuing anglers out to neighboring lakes in the morning hours and moved them back to Lake Lyle during the afternoon shoot.  However, not too many anglers returned with much to weigh in after the morning shoot.  Team Travis and Kevin managed to horse in 2 lb 4 oz of fish to take the early lead - I believe they fished the south side of Cain Slew ( and tested rule infraction #2004-6 'Shotgun Start time at 8:00am and  again at 1:00pm  from the Lodge' and a faced a close DQ by not checking in at the lounge at 8:00am ).

Even the early hours at beautiful Lake Lyle looked a little tight until the team of John Jackson and Dave Patek found the hot spot.  Just to show what true sportsmen John & Dave are -  Lyle of and Larry Longstreet where on their way ( empty handed ) to try another spot as John waved them in and invited them into their camp because they had caught a few and knew we where empty.  It was deja vu all over again because within an hour, all the teams had moved ( aka horded ) into John & Dave's spot - but that's the way fishing Lake Lyle is - "spread out until someone finds em and then get everybody in on the fun".

Lyle of Lake Lake is quoted as saying, ".. I really didn't expect that many perch to come out of Lake Lyle this year.  I've been out there a few times prior to the derby and had not had too good of luck".   He went on to say, " .. The SIZE of fish this year was the amazing thing -  why, I think I caught the biggest fish ( cough ) and it weighed 1 lb 3 oz but then again... I usually set the hook pretty good during tournaments".  

None of the teams returned to the lounge with their limits but it seemed like there where some nice size to the ones weighed in - no little ones.  If the winter remains mild and we receive adequate rain through next fall,  then  it looks like the the 5th annual Lake Lyle Derby will be held under the same format as the 1st derby was - right at Lake Lyle,  prizes given away, entry fee will include a 12-pack o Old Mill Bottles, many lbs of fish, black gold, etc etc.
