Ricky and Russ run away with event
The 2nd annual Lake Lyle Ice Fishing Derby was held Jan 26th, 2002 on the beautiful ice of Lake Lyle and included neighboring lake, Lake Randy. This year's format sent the perch-pursuing anglers out on Lake Lyle in the morning hours and moved them to Lake Randy during the afternoon shoot. The format was used to verify early scouting reports of a dreadful 2001 winter-kill on Lyle Lyle - unfortunately the results were conclusive.
Rick Grace and Russ Layton, both of Huron, were this year's winners.
9 anglers making up 4.5 teams participated in this year's Lake Lyle Fishing Derby. A Dick Decker shotgun start sent anglers battling for last year's prime spots on Lake Lyle. No fish were taken during the morning hours. At 12:00, the action moved just south of Lake Lyle to Lake Randy where approximately 60 lbs of perch were caught!
