It's official. We had an Ice Fishing Derby. Lake Lyle kicked out some of the finest Perch in the area. These Perch were really nice! To bad if ya missed this one. Oh, and Dennis Rubbelke with Jeff Geiser capture the honors of winning the first annual Lake Lyle fishing derby.
22 anglers making up 9 teams participated in this year's Lake Lyle Fishing Derby. A shotgun start sent anglers battling for prime spots on the north weed bed. Early scouting reports indicated the north weed bed as the prime hot spot, however, after four hours into the derby this looked a little bleak.
The team of Rick Grace, Russ Layton, and Dave Patek looked to be in command with about a dozen perch in their bucket. Team Larry Longstreet and Rick Berg were also shining with the bottom of their bucket covered ( thanks to Larry ). Things seemed a little slow for the rest of the field.
About 1:30, part of Team Lake Lyle ( Lyle of & Mike Bergstrom ) were out punching holes when out come a bubbling crude..... perch that is, yellow gold, Texas tea. These boys was on the spot! The third member of Team Lake Lyle, Chuck Schuchard, soon joined and within an hour they had one bucket full and working on the second. By this time, one of Huron's finest, Dick Decker, had the news flowin " ...hey boys, Lyle's spot is the place ya aught to be..." so they loaded up their camps and moved CLOSER to ME! Hording that is. Augers roaring, fish-a-flying. By 3:00, everybody had fish. Tons of fish! Smiling faces! Lyle of Lake Lyle had truly saved the day!
Now sit back and enjoy a few of the captured moments:

Anglers begin to lineup for the shotgun start.

Decker starts the first Annual Lake Lyle Fishing Derby with a bang.

This is where it all started. As Bergstrom says ".. if the guide says here, here it is!"

It didn't take long for the word to get out. Lyle's pickup was soon surrounded.
Bob & Larry havin fun. Lantgen lands one. Dave, Bob and Russ busy.

Chuck's PA Dave does it Russ rallies
Ricky raises another Harrold holding, Shanon snaring.

All good things must end. Decker shotgun stops the event and begins the weigh in.

The crew. Terry hands the fish, Russ, Harrold slab, Bob bones, Dick, JB & Dave bag.
...... Oh ya, and the over-see-ers.

The winners. Jeff Geiser and Dennis Rubbelke

The silent winner. Entry fee was $10.00 & a 12-pack of Old Mill. Thanks fer the beer boys!
