"Meat" the 2001 bosses........

Pictured from left to right: Spook, Whiteface, Blacky , T-Bone, and Billy.

All 5 critters were purchased at a weight of 850+ lbs. The price per pound was xx.xx / 100 weight. Each had vet service consisting of de-worm, pinkeye, and branded with the double L on the left hip. Vet work totaled 10.40 per head.
The price per pound at an estimated 700hw is 1.41 / lb - not bad at all. We must remember this is just an estimate @ 700#, if they weigh out more, the cost per pound will be lower, on the other hand, if the weight is less, the price per pound will be more. Here are a few examples of weight & cost per lb :
800lb = 1.27
700lb = 1.41
600lb = 1.60
500lb = 1.90
Price Estimates for 2001:
example of closing costs sent to Mike & Terry:
Mike & Terry
,I'm taking two of the steers to Huron Custom Meats for butchering on Nov 5th. and the remainder on Nov 9th. Due to deer season, it was about the only butcher shop that would take beef during the month of November. They quoted me a price of $0.31 a pound plus kill and skin costs ( usually 20.00 - 25.00 ). I believe all the steers look nice and round and are nearly complete with their 120-day grain feeding program. I'm hoping the hanging weight will be 700lb or more. That is what I used to estimate the butcher cost and also to derive the final price per pound. I just checked with the Butcher Shop here in Watertown and the current price per pound for 1/2 a beef is 1.89. So if our steers hit a 700lb hanging weight, we will be looking great.
I put together this summary of costs involved in purchasing and raising your steer, Mr. "WhiteFace", minus the down payment you gave me back in May / June and derived a balance of our endeavor. I see your balance is sitting a -76.67 each, so pay up.
I will also need to know how you would like your beef processed i.e thickness of steaks, number of steaks per package, hamburger package sizes, size of roasts, if you want any round steaks tenderized, etc. So please fill out the enclosed butcher process form and return it to me ASAP. I will let you know when your beef will be ready and when you can pick it up. You will each be responsible for paying incurred butchering costs to Huron Custom Meats when you pickup our meat.
