Rick Grace De-thrones Russ Layton in the Second Annual Bristle Beach Fishing Derby
".. Fishy fishy in the brook, Ricky catches em with a hook, Russell cleans em like a man, we all eat as much as we can.. " That tune pretty much set the tone for the Second Annual Bristle Beach Fishing Derby as Rick Grace out-fished the rest of the group and became this year's champion-of-champions. This annual event, now in its second year, got underway Friday April 11, 2003, with the usual evening social & deck party overlooking the waters of Lake Byron and only a few steps from the shoreline of Bristle Beach. Last year's rules and format remained intact - The derby started Saturday morning at 8:00am, ran until late afternoon, and included any & all neighboring waters in the Lake Byron Bristle Beach area.
Ricky pretty much shut the door on the competition when he added a nice 3 lb walleye to the others he had already landed. All the fish were caught from the shores of the James River using minnows, chubs, and leaches. Last year's champion, Russ Layton of Huron had a respectful showing with 3 nice eaters - however, nobody cares much about second place. Ricky was the man!

Second place went to Russ Layton. Russ was the derby winner last year.

The cabin seems to enjoy these events - you can even says it glows.

This byrd wanted in! Unfortunately, the plex-a-glass created a DOC ( dead on contact ) situation and as we all know "..the screen never gives up her dead.. "
The third annual Bristle Beach fishkin derby is scheduled for April 10, 2004. Hope to see ya all there!
